Community Club Donates to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal

Posted on 21-Nov-2013

The Twin Towns Community Foundation and Twin Towns Services Clubs & Resorts announced today their donation of $100,000 to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal.

The funds are set to be distributed to bushfire ravaged areas around the Blue Mountains, Newcastle and the Southern Highlands region in order to help communities rebuild and recover from the fires which caused terrible devastation.

In the spirit of not for profit community clubs, and some local pubs many were doing what they could to help those affected by the fires. This included kind acts of opening their doors twenty four hours a day providing food, drinks, accommodation and pet and animal barns. In addition to staff working long hours more often than not without pay to assist residents, fire fighting volunteers and others in need.

The Minister for Hospitality Mr. George Souris said the facilities of clubs and hotels in these areas are desperately needed and have been provided. “The clubs and pubs have opened their doors and their management and staff, who have opened their hearts, have shown their community spirit in such a time of crisis,” he said.

Twin Towns Board Chairman Michael Fraser said members of Twin Towns Services Clubs and Resorts should be proud to belong to such a community supporting Club with associated industry organisations quick to respond in times of emergency. “The donation to Salvation Army Appeal was decided upon as they are another organisation whom are always on the front line and mirror our community values.” He said.

Total donations to the Salvation Army Bushfire Appeal as of Tuesday 5 November were $7.1 million. These funds will provide goods and services which are needed to assist individuals, families and communities with the rebuilding process, and allow them to recover with the dignity and respect they deserve.
