The Searchers

The distinctive jangling sound of the twelve string guitar and the rich harmonies embellishing their immaculate vocals have without doubt assured The Searchers of a lasting place in the history of popular music throughout the world. From their early beginnings in the late fifties as a skiffle group formed by John McNally and a bunch of friends, through the heady days of the sixties as teenage idols they have comfortably settled into a position well deserved by a band whose sound has influenced some of the most important artistes of our generation such as The Byrds, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Marshall Crenshaw and so many others.
Their first single 'Sweets for My Sweet' rocketed to number one with many hits to follow including 'Don’t Throw Your Love Away', 'Needles and Pins', 'Love Potion Number Nine', 'Sugar and Spice', and 'Someday We’re Gonna Love Again'. Throughout the bands career, there were a few line-up changes, however the support of the fans never wavered. The proof was found with the release of several other hits including 'When You Walk In The Room', 'Goodbye My Love', 'Bumble Bee' and 'Take it or Leave It', and a heavy worldwide touring schedule.
Although the flow of hits gradually declined, it spawned a new era for The Searchers where, instead of performing to hysterical crowds they were playing to audiences who appreciated and applauded their slick and disciplined skills. The resurgence of the sixties sound in the 1980s, brought new life to The Searchers and a new vibrant young vocalist, Spencer James, who replaced Mike Pender from the original line-up. The introduction of Spencer James was taken well, leading to four sell out nation wide concert tours, in addition The Searchers appeared on stage in the Solid Silver Sixties Show.
One of the many highlights of their renewed success was, without doubt, their appearance at Wembley Stadium in June 1989, in front of 80,000 people on each of the two days, as guests of Cliff Richard celebrating his 30 years in show business. Today, The Searchers continue to headline major theatre tours around the country and have recently started performing their own special solo concerts, giving their ever increasing fans a great opportunity to enjoy a range of material including their well known hits and rarely seen acoustic performed songs. After five decades in the business The Searchers sure know how to put on a performance, you be the judge and experience them for yourself.
Parkway Drive
Sick Summer II Tour
with HAND OF MERCY + SURVIVAL + KNIGHTS LIKE THESE
Tickets - $27
SUN 19 FEBRUARY 2012 | 07:00 PM (QLD TIME)

Kicking off the new year touring as part of the Big Day Out, Parkway Drive has announced a run of regional dates for February and March. The Sick Summer II Tour commences on the Sunshine Coast on February 16 and will visit towns along the East Coast before it's last stop at Melbourne's Push Over Fest on March 12.
"Summer time in Australia. Is there any other place you'd want to be?” Frontman Winston McCall comments. "For us it means a chance to hit the road in the country we love and play as many of those places we don't get to stop at as much. We figure the major cities have had their chance so its time to bring the show back to regional Australia, and lets see how crazy the small towns can get. These tours always end up some of the funnest shows we play anywhere. Sweaty venues, stage dives, sing alongs, beach hang outs. Sick Summer indeed.”
Blasting out of Byron Bay in 2003, an affront to the sun-soaked serenity of their surroundings, Parkway Drive has achieved milestones both here at home and overseas that hitherto seemed beyond the realms of imagination. A five-piece of astonishing power and understated charisma, Parkway Drive created unseen hysteria with their brutal 2005 full-length debut, ‘Killing With A Smile’. Released by Resist Records in Australia and Epitaph for the rest of the world, the album spent time in the ARIA National Top 40, affirming the astounding popularity of a band who had grown their fan base from genuine hardcore roots. Indeed, Parkway Drive’s success might have seem like some kind of amazing dream, if it weren’t for the all the hard work and sacrifice that has gone into making it happen.
With the release of their second album, ‘Horizons’, the phenomenon was about to get a whole lot more phenomenal. On October 6, 2007, Parkway Drive unleashed their standout sophomore effort, ‘Horizons’. Recorded once again by producer and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz in Boston, MA, Horizons debuted at #6 on the ARIA chart, #1 on the Australian Artist chart and # 1 on the Independent chart.
Relentless touring has been one of the keys to Parkway Drive’s success. Selling out shows across Australia, they spent a large part of the 2007-2008 abroad, crisscrossing North America, Europe and Japan, a 31-date stint on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour and a sold out European Tour being just some of the many highlights. The world, it seems, is catching onto what we in Australia have known for a while.
In August 2010 the band released their first DVD, fittingly titled ‘The DVD’ which debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart and achieved Gold sales status a week after it's release. In support of ‘The DVD’ the band set out on their biggest headline tour to date with close to 5000 people attending their Brisbane show. The quiet confidence and lack of arrogance expressed by the band is what lies at the heart of Parkway Drive’s massive appeal.
Parkway are just five ordinary dudes who came together to create one extraordinary band.
