The distinctive jangling sound of the twelve string guitar and the rich harmonies embellishing their immaculate vocals have without doubt assured The Searchers of a lasting place in the history of popular music throughout the world. From their early beginnings in the late fifties as a skiffle group formed by John McNally and a bunch of friends, through the heady days of the sixties as teenage idols they have comfortably settled into a position well deserved by a band whose sound has influenced some of the most important artistes of our generation such as The Byrds, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Marshall Crenshaw and so many others.

Their first single 'Sweets for My Sweet' rocketed to number one with many hits to follow including 'Don’t Throw Your Love Away', 'Needles and Pins', 'Love Potion Number Nine', 'Sugar and Spice', and 'Someday We’re Gonna Love Again'. Throughout the bands career, there were a few line-up changes, however the support of the fans never wavered. The proof was found with the release of several other hits including 'When You Walk In The Room', 'Goodbye My Love', 'Bumble Bee' and 'Take it or Leave It', and a heavy worldwide touring schedule.

Although the flow of hits gradually declined, it spawned a new era for The Searchers where, instead of performing to hysterical crowds they were playing to audiences who appreciated and applauded their slick and disciplined skills. The resurgence of the sixties sound in the 1980s, brought new life to The Searchers and a new vibrant young vocalist, Spencer James, who replaced Mike Pender from the original line-up. The introduction of Spencer James was taken well, leading to four sell out nation wide concert tours, in addition The Searchers appeared on stage in the Solid Silver Sixties Show.

One of the many highlights of their renewed success was, without doubt, their appearance at Wembley Stadium in June 1989, in front of 80,000 people on each of the two days, as guests of Cliff Richard celebrating his 30 years in show business. Today, The Searchers continue to headline major theatre tours around the country and have recently started performing their own special solo concerts, giving their ever increasing fans a great opportunity to enjoy a range of material including their well known hits and rarely seen acoustic performed songs. After five decades in the business The Searchers sure know how to put on a performance, you be the judge and experience them for yourself.

Sick Summer II Tour
with HAND OF MERCY + SURVIVAL + KNIGHTS LIKE THESE

Tickets - $27

SUN 19 FEBRUARY 2012 | 07:00 PM (QLD TIME)

Due to legal requirements, persons under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Kicking off the new year touring as part of the Big Day Out, Parkway Drive has announced a run of regional dates for February and March. The Sick Summer II Tour commences on the Sunshine Coast on February 16 and will visit towns along the East Coast before it's last stop at Melbourne's Push Over Fest on March 12.

"Summer time in Australia. Is there any other place you'd want to be?” Frontman Winston McCall comments. "For us it means a chance to hit the road in the country we love and play as many of those places we don't get to stop at as much. We figure the major cities have had their chance so its time to bring the show back to regional Australia, and lets see how crazy the small towns can get. These tours always end up some of the funnest shows we play anywhere. Sweaty venues, stage dives, sing alongs, beach hang outs. Sick Summer indeed.”

Blasting out of Byron Bay in 2003, an affront to the sun-soaked serenity of their surroundings, Parkway Drive has achieved milestones both here at home and overseas that hitherto seemed beyond the realms of imagination.  A five-piece of astonishing power and understated charisma, Parkway Drive created unseen hysteria with their brutal 2005 full-length debut, ‘Killing With A Smile’. Released by Resist Records in Australia and Epitaph for the rest of the world, the album spent time in the ARIA National Top 40, affirming the astounding popularity of a band who had grown their fan base from genuine hardcore roots. Indeed, Parkway Drive’s success might have seem like some kind of amazing dream, if it weren’t for the all the hard work and sacrifice that has gone into making it happen.

With the release of their second album, ‘Horizons’, the phenomenon was about to get a whole lot more phenomenal. On October 6, 2007, Parkway Drive unleashed their standout sophomore effort, ‘Horizons’. Recorded once again by producer and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz in Boston, MA, Horizons debuted at #6 on the ARIA chart, #1 on the Australian Artist chart and # 1 on the Independent chart.

Relentless touring has been one of the keys to Parkway Drive’s success. Selling out shows across Australia, they spent a large part of the 2007-2008 abroad, crisscrossing North America, Europe and Japan, a 31-date stint on the 2007 Vans Warped Tour and a sold out European Tour being just some of the many highlights. The world, it seems, is catching onto what we in Australia have known for a while.

In August 2010 the band released their first DVD, fittingly titled ‘The DVD’ which debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart and achieved Gold sales status a week after it's release. In support of ‘The DVD’ the band set out on their biggest headline tour to date with close to 5000 people attending their Brisbane show. The quiet confidence and lack of arrogance expressed by the band is what lies at the heart of Parkway Drive’s massive appeal.

Parkway are just five ordinary dudes who came together to create one extraordinary band.

FRI 24 FEBRUARY 2012 | 08:00 PM (QLD TIME)

Due to legal requirements, persons under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Lonnie Lee is one of the initial pioneers of Aussie popular music, and is without doubt, the last man standing, not just from his own era, but also those after him. He is still writing, producing and releasing songs, playing important and current venues, and receiving performance awards.

Every 'today' star has their own idols and many Aussie idols of yesterday credit Lonnie as being their influence and their first ever record purchase including, Ross Wilson, Angry Anderson, Jim Keays, Billy Thorpe, Normie Rowe and Russell Morris. The blues Supergroup of the 70's, 'Chain' even recently wrote and released a song about Lonnie titled, 'Saturday Night at the Trocadero watching Lonnie Lee'. Many fans across this wide brown land still go to his shows and buy his CDs, and it is still much like it has been doing non-stop since 1957. Yes nearly 53 years ago, early 1957, when he started his first rockabilly trio.

His shows are always visited by fans who have either been with him from the start, or who he has collected recently on his way to today. They are of all ages and backgrounds and also from all musical tastes ranging from country music, blues, jazz, rock, classic rock and even  some who are avid opera and symphony fans, yet they appreciate who he is. It really doesn’t matter because he is a true legend of popular music just doing his own thing, which happens to be many things. He sings his many Gold #1 hits which are still alive and well on Hits and Memory Radio, takes you on a journey through his recent hits plus tributes to country, rockabilly, Johnnie Ray and his friend Johnnie O'Keefe who passed away 31 years ago this October.

His youthful presentation, vocal capabilities and energy is also legendary and anyone who is interested in live music should at least once see this unique star.  Whilst music fans will mill around the latest stars and their own personal favourites, one cannot help to wonder just how many of them will still be performing in 53 years, let alone be feted as a ‘true legend’.

Belinda Carlisle

Tickets - $62

SAT 10 MARCH 2012 | 08:00 PM (QLD TIME)

Due to legal requirements, persons under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Belinda Carlisle, was and occasionally still is the lead vocalist for the pop rock band The Go-Go's  and also a phenomenally successful solo artist who still tours and, eventually, records to this day. Following the success of an Australian tour in February/March 2011, the Grammy Award-nominated American singer and best-selling author is returning in March 2012.

Belinda’s first venture into music was as the drummer for the LA punk band The Germs, under the name Dottie Danger, it didn’t last long what with drumming not being her natural forte and all so she left and joined The Go-Go's. After the initial breakup of The Go-Go's in 1985 Belinda picked herself up, dusted herself off and embarked upon a solo career. Her first solo album, Belinda, was released in 1986 and it was also that year Belinda married Morgan Mason, son of the British actor James Mason.

Belinda flaunted her glamorous image on the cover of her second album 1987's Heaven on Earth, her second solo album. Critics and fans noticed that not only was Belinda’s image more glamorous than during her time with The Go-Go's, but also her solo music was more polished and ‘professional’. The new sAound was certainly due in part to producer Rick Nowels, who had previously worked with Stevie Nicks and would later work with Madonna amongst many others.

The first release from Heaven on Earth was ‘Heaven is a Place on Earth’, an enormous international hit, topping the charts not only in the U.S. but also in the U.K. and several other countries. It is to this day probably her best known song. The next song released from Heaven on Earth was ‘I Get Weak’ followed promptly by ‘Circle in the Sand’, both were big hits.

Belinda's next album after Heaven on Earth was 1989's Runaway Horses. This album hit number four in the UK and number three in the US so proving that she was still much in demand. The first single ‘Leave a Light On’ just missed the Top Ten in the U.S., peaking at eleven, but in the UK it hit the Top Five. The second single, ‘Summer Rain’, missed the Top Twenty (#23) in Spring 1990, but spent a long time in the Top Seventy Five and was, perhaps surprisingly, one of the biggest selling singles that year.

Belinda had even better success in the U.K. that autumn when she went to number six with the remixed ‘(We Want) The Same Thing’, another track from Runaway Horses. This underscored perhaps that Belinda's popularity in Europe now far surpassed both her and The Go – Go’s success in America.

Belinda's fifth solo album, Real, was released. After the Northridge Earthquake in 1994, and after the turmoil of the riots shortly beforehand, Belinda, Mason and Dukey moved to the South of France.

Belinda returned to the recording studio and in 1996, she released her sixth solo album, A Woman and A Man. This album revitalized her solo career in Europe and included several hits. Leadoff single "In Too Deep" returned Carlisle to the U.K. Top Ten for the first time in seven years, reaching number six. ‘Always Breaking My Heart’, written and produced by Roxette's Per Gessle, was another top ten smash, peaking at number eight.

Since those humble yet defining days, set amongst the backdrop of country Queensland, the self-taught artist has forged an internationally praised and respected career spanning more than three decades earning him double platinum status for his greatest hits and numerous industry awards.

Rick relocated to Nashville USA in 2009, primarily to tour with his buddy and great friend, Tommy Emmanuel. After being back on stage playing to big live audiences, Rick, feeling inspired and re-energised, jumped straight into co-writing with other artists in Nashville. The result will certainly be a surprise to some of his diehard fans. Love, a recurring theme in his new work, where it once spoke of heartbreak and loss, now speaks of hope and transformation.

The Water’s Edge indicates new influences and a broader style. While there are still echoes of a great pop artist, even more so, country and blues meld beautifully with folk sounds to create an album that transcends genre. Audiences can expect to hear all these brilliant new songs and sounds from Rick, but as well he will never disappoint and the greatest hits will be performed as well.
