Black Tie’s shows are fast-paced and entertaining. Combining comedy, vocals and instrumentals.
Black Tie is a unique Australian Cabaret Act consisting of two brothers, Con and Yuri Mavridis, and their wives, cellist Sue and pianist Valerie. They have received Australia’s highest accolade, the Mo Award for Best Cabaret Group.
They have performed with such great performers as Max Bygraves, Patti Lupone, Vic Damone, Dionne Warwick, the late Rosemary Clooney and Victor Borge.
Constantine (Con) Mavridis is a bass-baritone who has been a soloist with the Australian Opera Company and has sung opposite the great Dame Joan Sutherland. He has won numerous competitions in Australia and has studied and sung at The Metropolitan Opera in New York as well as in concerts in Canada and the US.
Yuri Mavridis is also a bass-baritone and his voice blends perfectly with his brother’s. He began voice training at 17 and majored in vocal performance at the Sydney Conservatorium. He has won many competitions in both the classical and popular fields. He has developed into an outstanding stand-up comedian and he writes most of Black Tie’s parodies.
Susan Mavridis, a former member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, has a wide musical background as a cellist, continuing studies with well-known teachers in London and New York. She plays popular classics with great virtuosity as well as modern jazzy works.
Valerie Mavridis has won several major piano competitions in Australia and has performed as a soloist with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. She received a Bachelor of Music at Sydney University with a high distinction in performance. Her piano playing is regarded as outstanding by the most discerning of critics. Her repertoire ranges from demanding classical works to jazz standards to boogies and rags. She writes all of Black Tie’s musical arrangements.
