To mark the 35th anniversary of the passing of Australian rock legend Johnny O’Keefe, entertainer Issi Dye will don the suits and the style of the 50’s & ’60s to bring the legend and the music legacy back to the stage. 

‘‘He was the first Australian king of rock and roll,’’ Dye says. ‘‘In those days there wasn’t anyone who even came close to him. ‘‘Australia had never seen anyone like him. He was a rock and roll singer but with a cabaret orientation….great with audiences everywhere!” 

‘‘He didn’t just sing songs, he embraced his TV audience and involved them all the time. There was lots of jumping on tables and chairs and getting off the stage and out into the audience. That is why everyone called him the wild one.’’ Dye says the tribute show will focus on the songs and atmosphere that JOK created in his heyday. Songs like: She’s my baby, I’m counting on you, Shout!, Move baby move, The Wild one & more! 

In the early days of his career, Dye worked alongside JOK, which he says was a blessing. ‘‘I worked with JOK in the ’70s on my late-night David Letterman-style show. JOK was a regular guest and I even went along to host some of his shows.”
