(Route 66 Band awarded Best Rock’n’Roll Band at Wintersun 2009)
Route 66 Band was formed in January 2004 which kicked off the first big gig at the South Tweed Sports Club. Three of the band members originally came from a NSW country town Inverell. The band is known as a country rock band with a flavour from the 50s—2000s rock to modern up-tempo country music and a touch of rockabilly. The band has introduced good uptempo country music into their repitior as the rock’n’roll clubs have found out that country music has a great beat for the dancers. The band has performed at most major clubs and Venues throughout southern Queensland & Northern NSW. Music festivals, Wintersun, Cooly Rocks On, Gympie Muster.
Route 66 Band was one of the original bands that were involved in Rock’n’Roll Tuesdays at Twin Towns 2005 then has since moved to Wednesdays which is still going strong today.
The original band members were:
Trevor White: Lead guitar and vocals.
Keith Douglas: Drums and vocals.
Matthew White: Bass and Vocals.
Michael White: Lead guitar and Vocals.
Trevor and Keith were former members of the Rock’n’Rebels Band. Matthew was formerly the bass player for ‘Silverhair’. Michael played lead guitar in a country band in Townsville. Matthew and Michael are the two sons of their dad Trevor who started out in their teens in his band at Inverell NSW before moving to the Gold Coast 1997.
Some of the artists covered are Elvis, Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, Bill Haley, Johnny O’keefe, Dion, Chuck Berry, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, The Mavericks, George Strait, Vince Gill, Lee Kernaghan, Garth Brooks, Troy Cassa-Daley, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Steve Earle.
Route 66 released their first C.D. 2004 and released another in May 2007.
Michael and Matthew have since left the band and back to the country, being replaced with 2 new highly regarded musos.
The new members are:
Reg Dunne: Lead guitar and a great vocalist and a professional muso from Ireland.
Mike Pack: Bass and vocals & harmony.
